RESTAURANT REVIEW: Netty's
I've lived in Silver Lake for almost 4 years now & I've never been to Netty's even though I know many people who swear by the place. Maybe it's because there is a strange chain link fence with barbed wire and pointy cacti protecting the shack that is Netty's. We decided to brave the fence & pointy protectors last night to embark on a strange adventure.
So basically, you go into the "ordering room" which looks kind of like one of those little key copying kiosks. The menu is handwritten on a small white board, apparently it changes weekly (nightly?). There was an odd mixture of Pan-American food (tamales), American food (steaks, big salads) and Italian food (pasta). The only vegetarian things on the menu were the pastas, but the choices were plentiful. I got pumpkin ricotta ravioli with rosemary brown butter and Oli got the spinach ravioli with cream sauce. Both came with a small side salad & Italian bread with a garlic, parsley pesto.
After ordering, we walked back on the sidewalk, and then entered the "dining room" which is a semi-outdoor patio. There's no ambience at all, and Oli's wine came in a low-ball glass. Our food arrived quickly, and it was all fine, but nothing out of the ordinary in taste, especially for the heafty price tag--both our pastas were $14 each!
Open for lunch & dinner, I don't think I'll go back to Netty's any time soon, unless they cut their prices in half.
