RESTAURANT REVIEW: Tartine SF
If Tartine was in LA, I'd weigh 400 pounds by now. This place has ridiculously good pastries, cakes, breads and panini. I wish I could have tried more things--like the brioche bread pudding topped with raspberries or the double chocolate pain au chocolat, or the cheesy, savory gougere, or the eclairs, or the chocolate souffle cake made with sharffen berger chocolate...stop!! This place is too good. Don't let the ever present long line scare you away, the food is worth the wait.
I got a vegetarian croque monsieur--fresh country bread layered with tomatoes, bechamel, gruyere, thyme and pepper. The open faced sandwich was huge, satisfying and warm out of the oven. Oli got the Percorino and almond panini--melted goats cheese encrusted with crushed almonds, lemon & sage and a healthy dose of olive oil, also on their county bread. This sandwich was so rich, not even Oli could finish the whole thing (but it was huge).
If you're in San Francisco, run, don't walk to Tartine & leave your diet at the door.
Recommended.
